Name: Aaron Frogley
Company: SIG Plc
Aaron has worked for various manufacturers in our industry for over 20 years. I challenge you to find anyone in the industry that doesn’t know Aaron! He has a kind personality and humour, making him a great guy to know.
18 months ago, Aaron joined SIG as a Merchant Sales Director – where his vision and determination has seen him repair a damaged reputation and build a strong team focused on ensuring the best service possible for Merchants.
I chose to nominate Aaron, as the one thing that has always impressed me is whilst he has a strong commercial drive, it is his dedication to ‘give back’ that stands him apart – he has been responsible for raising a considerable amount of funds for charities such as the Rainy Day Trust – of which he has been a trustee for the past four years
Name: Paul Carlisle
Company: Bradfords Building Supplies
Paul plays a patriarchal role at Bradfords. Now 44 years as part of the Bradfords team and working as business development director, Paul exemplifies what being a merchant is. Paul’s grounded approach to merchanting means he is an invaluable member of the senior team at Bradfords, and there are few across the business who haven’t benefitted from his experience in every aspect of merchanting. In fact he’s a key part of induction for those joining the business. He’s an ardent supporter of those we grow from within. Beyond the internal confines of Bradfords, Paul is a well respected and known part of the local community, actively participating in the local Chambers of Commerce, and involved in local community issues. There are few developers and builders in the Somerset area who are not on first name terms with him, and he has over the course of his career run no less than 8 of our branches. We often say that if you cut Paul he’d bleed Bradfords, but despite this 4 decade long loyalty, there’s pure builders’ merchant in there really. Paul exemplifies the best that customers expect from a merchant – with focus on project rather than product, and obsession over management of expectation. His ability to work with anyone at any level in all of Bradfords, our supplier network and our customer base is exceptional and extraordinary.
With him due to retire in the next 24months, Bradfords are working hard to fill what will be a very significant gap when he goes. His ability to work with anyone at any level in all of Bradfords, our supplier network and our customer base is exceptional and extraordinary.
From our CEO: Paul has over 40 years experience in the industry and has given so much locally to the communities in which we serve. He’s held so many influential roles within the company: branch manger, sales manager, sales director and latterly business development director. He has mentored numerous staff over the years who have progressed to senior roles within the business. He has overcome adversity with the recent death of his daughter and has come back even more determined to make a difference every day. He is an inspiration – not just to work colleagues but also customers and suppliers. He continues to work with as much enthusiasm and passion as he did on his first day. He remains wedded to the business and has been front and centre in its transformation change over the last years. He has driven initiatives and helped change and shape the culture of the company. His passion for life, communities and people is what sets him apart – nothing is too much trouble and he is first to put his hand up if problems occur and need sorting. The company is lucky to have him and I don’t know of anyone who has given more to a company than him.
Name: Simon Rance, Sales Director
Sales Director Simon Rance has been a prominent figure of the TIMCO Senior Management Team since joining the business in 2008 and celebrates 11 years as Sales Director later this year. Under Simon’s guidance, sales figures have grown significantly. He has contributed to the company’s continued growth through a range of internal and customer focussed initiatives which culminated in the record £49.7 million turnover for 2020 – a 14% increase on the previous year, with a predicted £60 million turnover for 2021 when figures are audited.
Simon manages both the TIMCO Internal and External Sales Teams as well as the Sales Support Team. He has extended the External Sales Team, adding seven new Regional Business Consultants in the last 18 months bringing the total to 20. He also continues to identify and recognise talent within the business, promoting three Regional Business Managers in the last 12 months to drive further, long-term success.
Simon made a conscious decision to change their job titles to ‘Consultants’ rather than ‘Sales Representatives’ marking a significant change to their way of working. Putting customers at the heart of everything the team does, Simon and his field-based team are now ideally positioned with strong data to offer advice and market analysis as well as informing them of the most effective initiatives and best performing lines.
His team has adopted a ‘business consultancy’ approach to supporting merchants; whereby a Regional Business Consultant is allocated to each customer to truly understand their business, share best practice guidelines gained from experience in the sector, enabling them to provide bespoke merchandising, sales plans and ultimately, help the customer sell more products!
This broad range of services is all part of the TIMCO Hug – providing expert knowledge and industry leading support to merchants. Simon is a leading advocate of the TIMCO Hug company ethos; supporting independent businesses, enabling them to compete with national operators. He has built and developed many long-lasting trading relationships and continues to champion independent builders’ merchants. Simon is often at the ‘coal face’ talking to both existing and prospective customers about the TIMCO range, answering any challenging questions and supporting customers’ individual requests particularly over the last two years.
During the pandemic, Simon continued to maintain service levels with customers. He led from the front and featured on both BBC Five Live & BBC News Channel to highlight the industry issues. He firmly believes that strong and effective communication by TIMCO is key to our valued customers long term success and has provided the tools to keep customers well informed during the recent challenging trading years.
Simon’s mantra is simply “whatever customers need and whenever they need it, we do whatever it takes to make it happen” and his continued efforts are regularly recognised by customers and buying groups alike. We are multiple award winners across various Buying Groups and Simon is committed to actively developing good client relationships with every buying group.
In summary, Simon is an ever present across the business as well as our 4,500 customers, building long lasting, valued and mutually beneficial relationships for the benefit of all.
