Simon Bracken

Simon joined Encon four years ago as an Area Sales Manager. It was his first external sales role, which can be quite daunting, but Simon took to it like a duck to water and was promoted to Business Development Manager in 2021.

Key drivers to the success of this type of role are customer relationships, initiative, self-motivation, and forward planning. From day one, Simon achieved to a high standard in all these areas, leading to his successful promotion.

Simon is smart, reliable and an excellent communicator. He does not wait to be directed to an opportunity, he creates them, liaising with our suppliers and merchant customers to find mutually beneficial solutions. This often also requires the skill and confidence to negotiate effectively to achieve the right deal, which Simon excels at time and again.

His relationships with key decision makers across his customer base are constantly evolving. His strong understanding of what they and their businesses need from their distribution partner is key to Simon’s success.

In his four years with Encon, Simon has exceeded both his sales and profit targets every year through developing strong relationships with existing customers and driving new business. His sales ledger has grown by over 10% year-on-year.

Simon’s strong motivation and focus means he is always keen to continue developing his learning and skills and be involved in key groups within the merchanting sector. His ‘can do’ attitude, strong relationships and positive approach led to his promotion in 2022 to Regional Sales Manager – Merchants, responsible for managing and developing three new external salespeople in the South East, and to his latest promotion in 2023 to National Account Manager – South.

Simon is a member of the BMF Young Merchants, joining in 2021, and has completed internal training courses aimed at improving both his management skills and product knowledge.

In only a few years, Simon has excelled in his role. His rapid progression is a firm reflection of his success in his sector and with his merchant customers. He’s actively built on existing opportunities, driven new ones and steered through industry challenges with excellent results for his customers.

James joined Encon five years ago from the roofing sector as ASM in the North West. He immediately got to grips with the insulation market – a new sector for him – and made a significant impact on profitable branch sales. In January 2023 he was promoted to Key Account Manager – North, recognising his achievements as part of Encon’s growing Builders Merchant team.

His key strengths of both market and product knowledge in conjunction with his natural people skills made him a standout candidate for this new position, one he is making a real impact in. In his new role building relationships with key customers is obviously essential but he also works well with our suppliers to gain their support for jointly beneficial account terms to the benefit of all parties in the route to market.

James is fast developing a great reputation in the sector and is at the start of a very promising career.

Brief Description:
Robert has had a very progressive career, with his role as an external Area Sales Manager only beginning when he joined the team at Altecnic. Although he may not have a wealth of experience within his role, his knowledge of the industry is unmatched due to his previous work as a merchant Branch Manager.
Career History:
Beginning his career in the plumbing and heating industry in 2008, Robert started off as a trades counter person at his local plumbing merchants. In his role he was able to attain the foundations needed to expand his knowledge and provide the best experience for his customers.
Robert was then promoted to Branch Manager, where his skills and knowledge were grossly expanded further. Within this role Robert was able to take a strategic approach to his activity planning, developing and maintaining relationships and reaching sales targets. He focussed on business development, attracting new customers and building a strong, reliable reputation of the branch.
Through his Branch Manager role, Robert developed essential customer service and customer expectation management skills. He was able to resolve customer grievances quickly and efficiently, whilst also going above and beyond for all his customers.
In 2018 Robert moved from the merchant side to the supplier side, taking a role as Area Sales Manager for the North East and Scotland for Altecnic. After acquiring a number of attractive sales skills and having an insight into a merchant’s mindset, he was seen to be perfect candidate for the role. Throughout the time he has been at Altecnic, Robert has exceeded expectations in area growth and sales figures.

Customer Service:
Robert has, undoubtedly, a deeper understanding of his customers wants and needs due to once being a customer. Understanding customers on this level has helped him always deliver, making himself available whenever his customers need him. However, his customer service really stands out because of how well he plans ahead for his customers, whilst always keeping them informed on any unexpected changes. Robert’s forward planning allows for customers to feel a sense of security in both him and the Altecnic brand.
Robert has consistently provided the highest level of support for his customers by supplying product information and pricing, as well as tables and charts with full descriptions and product certifications. Supplying this level of detail, for all customers, always, fortifies the brand’s consistency and helps build Altecnic’s reputation.

Employee Achievements:
Robert has always exceeded expectations, with this being his first ever sales role. Throughout COVID Robert began to grow his region, something that was not expected of him and came as an amazing achievement. Due to this, Robert began to break company sales records for his region and always pushed the boundaries of his targets, achieving more than ever expected of him.
Robert has continued to develop and maintain strong relationships with both national and independent merchants, which are now invaluable to Altecnic and account for significant revenue.

Future Plans:
Looking to the future, Robert wishes to expedite growth in his region. He has set some clear targets and KPIs for himself, wishing to contact two new merchants per month. As well as this, Robert has set himself targets with his current customers, ensuring that he continues to forward plan with them all and even begin to inform them on Altecnic promotions further in advance.

History:
Steven graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a degree in Business Enterprise Development in 2013. Following this, Steven gained a range of experience within different industries and entered the plumbing and heating world in 2015 working as a brand specialist for Stelrad Ltd. Steven then moved to working for a plumbing and heating merchant, BBS Plumbing and Heating Supplies Ltd.
Steven joined Altecnic in March 2022 as an Area Sales Manager within the Trade division for the South West. When Steven began his role at Altecnic he had a limited understanding of the products however, he ensured that this did not hinder his progress. In order to stay on top of product information and get up to date with Altecnic, Steven spent the first few months of his role putting in extra work to understand Altecnic’s products in depth, as well as researching further into product application. By doing this, Steven was able to introduce new products to merchants and diversify their order to meet the needs of the installers.

Putting the Customer First:
From the minute Steven joined Altecnic he was keen to show his customer-first mindset, which he has developed a deep understanding for after working across a range of roles.
Steven has also consistently attempted to fill knowledge gaps for his customers, whether this be on Altecnic products or any gaps in industry knowledge- he aims to provide the complete solution for all of his customers.
Being at the end of a phone, whatever time of day, whatever time of the week, is another way Steven makes his customers feel like a priority. Utilising communication in order to enhance the customer experience comes naturally to Steven and is truly what makes him stand out.

Providing a Key Link in the Chain:
Steven works closely with Key Account Managers and Senior Management to implement wider strategic plans. Through organising and hosting training, attending customer and charity events, and sustaining relationships on a day-to-day basis, Steven provides a key link in the chain between the customer and Altecnic.
In addition to this, Steven works with other sales managers within different divisions of Altecnic. In the recent months Steven has worked with the Altecnic specification team to help manage leads and keep communication about ongoing projects as smooth as possible. Adding an extra layer to customer service, support and satisfaction, Steven encourages his customers to direct installers and contractors to him if they have any technical queries. Through doing this, Steven then builds solid relationships with installers and contractors, motivating them to purchase Altecnic products.

Future:
Looking to the future, Steven is continually striving to grow his area more and more, whilst still maintaining his high quality of customer service.
